University of Muhammadiyah Malang as an educational institution that has contributed to building the nation through the development of human resources, especially students at the tertiary level need to continue to be creative in developing educational programs in accordance with the demands of society's needs. One of the demands of the community's needs is a character building program for students, as an effort to improve the personal qualities of the nation's children so that they are able to do better in building society according to the motto of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang "From Muhammadiyah for the Nation".
University of Muhammadiyah Malang students empirically come from various regions throughout Indonesia which of course have differences in culture, social status, values, personal abilities (intellectual, mental and social) and religious understanding. If this difference is not managed properly from the start, it can become an inhibiting factor for the continuity of the learning process in tertiary institutions. In addition, differences in potential (talents and interests) and achievements can also create gaps between students, so it needs to be facilitated with activities that can synergize the opportunities created by the University with student potential.
The Personality and Leadership Formation Program (P2KK) activity is a character building activity that is given to all students of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This activity is present in order to answer the need for the importance of personal qualities that must be possessed by students and graduates of tertiary institutions. The Personality and Leadership Formation Program (P2KK), which has become the icon University of Muhammadiyah Malang, is a synergy between various fields to carry out programs to improve the quality of graduates at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang through academic and non-academic activities.
P2KK activities specifically for new students are a conversion program for AIK 1 courses (Al Islam and Kemuhamadiyah 1) which usually use a class system (lectures for 1 semester). In addition, this program also combines soft skill training activities for new students to provide provisions for carrying out learning activities on campus and introduces a culture of learning in tertiary institutions, so that each new student can immediately adjust to all routine learning activities and non-academic activities on campus .
P2KK activities have been going on since 2004 and have undergone several changes and improvements, both in the form of activity design, all P2KK participants are required to stay overnight during the activity (dormitory system) and carry out all the activity agenda that has been set accompanied by Trainers and Co. Trainers are trained according to their areas of expertise.
